LIRR Train Derailment – Human Error Is Likely Cause of Accident

A maintenance train side-swiped a passenger train on Saturday resulting in a derailment and injuries to 33 passengers on the Ronkonkoma line of the Long Island Railroad(LIRR). According to an article by the New York Daily News, this was likely caused by human error as it is believed that someone left a switch in the wrong position and as a result caused a maintenance train to sideswipe a passenger train. Of the 33 people injured, 4 are reported to be serious.

If the above report is indeed verified, that would be clear evidence of negligence on the part of the LIRR. If the accident was the result of negligence, passengers who have suffered injuries may have grounds to file a lawsuit against the railroad company or manufacturer.
