Another fatal accident was reported over the weekend involving a drunk driver striking and killing a 21-year old man who was walking back to his college following a Saturday night out. According to a report by CBS New York, the driver was found to be at twice the legal limit following the fatal incident. The victim was a junior at Manhattanville College and the driver is a 24 year old Rye resident. This tragedy took place near a ramp where Westchester Avenue meets Anderson Hill Road.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly one-third of all fatal auto accidents are caused by impaired driving. Accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs are often very serious because drunk drivers tend to speed, weave into other lanes and miss traffic signals. Head-on and T-bone collisions are common and may lead to wrongful death or catastrophic injuries. The saddest part is that these accidents are entirely preventable through the use of good judgment and common sense.
